From Grassroots Savings to Sustainable Growth
Hema | Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu
Hema from Makaliyenthal village in Avudayarkoil Taluk, Pudukkottai district, was a founding member of the first 20‑member Joint Liability Group in her village. Through this group, women were sensitised and educated on the importance of savings and financial discipline. Hema’s journey began with a loan of ₹25,000, which she used to purchase five goats. Over time, her livestock grew to 75 goats, significantly strengthening her family’s income.
With continued support, Hema diversified her livelihood by purchasing a milch cow, a cart bullock, and later a tractor, each investment further increasing her earnings. When she received her first loan, she lived in a hut. Six months ago, she built and moved into a concrete house, marking a major milestone in her life.
Today, Hema lives comfortably with a stable income. She gratefully acknowledges Valar Aditi Social Finance Private Limited for supporting her journey toward financial security and dignity.
