Standing with Communities During the Pandemic
Valar Aditi, in partnership with St. Joseph’s Development Trust and with the generous support of BESTSELLER Foundation, Denmark, successfully implemented a large-scale COVID Relief Support Programme to assist microfinance borrowers severely affected by the pandemic.
The prolonged lockdowns and the second wave of COVID-19 disrupted livelihoods across rural communities, particularly impacting women-led micro and small enterprises. Agricultural families, petty traders, vendors, and daily wage earners faced income loss, food insecurity, and mounting financial stress. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Valar Aditi mobilized resources to extend timely relief and solidarity to its clients.
Through this initiative, essential dry ration kits worth ₹600 each were distributed to 6,100 microfinance borrowers, covering basic food requirements during the crisis. The relief materials included rice, sugar, toor dhal, atta, rava, and masala powder. A dedicated purchase committee comprising Valar Aditi and SJDT staff ensured quality procurement and transparent distribution.
Strict COVID safety protocols were followed throughout the process. Distribution was carried out at branch offices with the support of field staff, centre leaders, and volunteers, while doorstep delivery was arranged for families affected by illness, quarantine, or bereavement. Local officials and community leaders participated in several distribution events, acknowledging the initiative and its impact.
The programme brought much-needed relief and reassurance to thousands of families. As one beneficiary shared, “Valar Aditi stood with us when we had nothing left. The support helped us survive the most difficult days.”
This initiative reaffirmed Valar Aditi’s commitment to protecting livelihoods and supporting vulnerable communities during times of crisis. We express our heartfelt gratitude to BESTSELLER Foundation and Mr. Jannek for their compassion and unwavering support, which enabled us to reach every affected client and help them move towards recovery and resilience.
