From Dependence to Determination Through Livelihood Support
Mariammal | Thittacherry, Tamil Nadu
Mariammal lives in Thittacherry and was initially dependent on her husband’s income. After joining the Valar Nelmani Joint Liability Group under Valar Aditi Social Finance Limited, she began her livelihood journey. Her first loan of ₹25,000 helped her start a small fruit stall. With a ₹40,000 loan, she rented a shop and continued her fruit business, and later, with a ₹60,000 loan, she built a shop adjacent to her house, allowing her to run the stall full‑time.
As her confidence and income grew, Mariammal availed a ₹1,00,000 loan, which she used to diversify her business by purchasing additional items, including a xerox machine. The steady profit from her fruit stall enabled her to meet her children’s educational needs and manage her household expenses comfortably. Her hard work and responsible repayment strengthened her eligibility for further support.
Through her improved income, Mariammal achieved a major milestone—she purchased 2 acres of farmland and began cultivating agriculture. She proudly says that Valar Aditi has given her confidence and motivation to grow further. She is committed to supporting other women in her group, repaying her dues on time, and expanding her fruit stall even more. She expresses her heartfelt thanks to VASFPL for empowering her journey.
